Somerville
The most densely populated community in New England and one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the nation, Somerville is rich in both history and culture. Its population is an eclectic mix of blue-collar families, young professionals, college students and recent immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti and Brazil. Another claim to fame is the fact that after New York, Somerville has more artists per capita than any other American city, making Somerville one of the most vibrant and exciting arts centers in the country.
Experience Somerville
The city is defined by its neighborhood squares, which serve as distinct business and social centers. Among the most energetic today are Davis, Union and Ball Squares. Each offers an array of ethnic restaurants, bars and cafes, unique shops and small businesses catering to every taste and occasion.
A new neighborhood - which is not square at all - is Assembly Row. The six-acre riverfront park is filled with designer and name-brand outlets, restaurants and cafes, Legoland, a Paintbar and a theater complex. In warm weather, you can amuse yourself with concerts, dance parties, yoga, outdoor movies and more.
Somerville is accessible by the MBTA’s Red Line and bus service from Sullivan Square. The T’s Orange Line takes you directly to Assembly Square - a 7-minute ride from downtown Boston.
